Managing Menopause

  • Much like puberty, menopause is a normal part of life. However, unlike puberty, which marks the beginning of a woman’s menstrual cycle, menopause marks the end of it. It comes naturally with age, usually occurring between 45 to 55 years old. Once a woman reaches menopause, her periods will stop and she can no longer get pregnant.
  • Entering menopause can be beautiful, but for some, it can be a challenge. Every woman experience menopause differently, with menopause symptoms unique to the individual. Our menopause clinic in Singapore is dedicated to helping each woman manage her symptoms efficiently and go through menopause smoothly.
  • Menopause symptoms can be short-term or long-term. Short-lived symptoms include hot flushes, chills or night sweats, mood changes, headaches, sleep problems, fatigue, reduced sex drive, weight gain, anxiety and depression. Long-term changes include vaginal dryness, hair loss, dry and wrinkly skin, painful sexual intercourse and urinary incontinence.
  • More serious concerns include the increased risk for a stroke, heart disease, osteoporosis, and cancer of the breast and ovary.
  • Our menopause specialist Dr Regina Zuzarte-Ng will advise you on screening tests, diet, exercise and other lifestyle changes for better symptom control. We also adopt a multi-faceted approach to manage menopause symptoms, such as through herbal remedies, supplements, bone-strengthening medicines and phytoestrogens – natural antioxidants that help maintain bone density and facilitate calcium absorption.
